Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration

Welcome

  • Keeping the Dream Alive

Everyone is invited to participate in the 2010 WSU Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration!

Make it a day on…not a day off on Monday, January 18. WSU’s Center for Civic Engagement will provide many opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and administrators to volunteer time in our community. Please visit http://cce.wsu.edu/for details.

The Annual Martin Luther King Jr. program will take place on Saturday, January 23,
6 p.m., in CUE 203. WSU Tri-Cities Professor and Civil Rights Historian Robert Bauman will give the keynote address. WSU Regents Professor Gregory W. Yasinitsky will perform a jazz piece he composed called Blues for a King. This year’s recipients of the MLK Distinguished Service Awards will also be recognized along with those completing National Coalition Building Institute training.

The communities of Washington State University, City of Pullman, University of Idaho, and City Moscow collaborate and organize community celebrations in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The annual celebration honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that the examples Dr. King set in his life and his death should not be forgotten as the historical memory fades but that a renewal will result from the mobilization of individuals from multi-ethnic and cross generational communities who will be inspired to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for many years to come.

This year’s event is dedicated in the memory of Dean Judy Mitchell and Interim Dean Lenoar Foster.
